“Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence.” ~ Sheryl Sandberg

THE PROBLEM

The job of school principal has always been challenging. With the instability and added responsibility brought into the role due to the COVID-19  pandemic, effectively leading a school can seem nearly impossible. One  out of five principals leave their positions yearly, due to working under  chaotic conditions with little to no support, lack of professional  development, leadership, or coaching.

A survey conducted by the NASSP indicates that 45% of principals are  considering early retirement or leaving the profession early due to these  conditions which existed pre-pandemic and have only intensified during  the pandemic. Research also shows that principal turnover can be  disruptive to school progress often resulting in higher teacher turnover and  ultimately lower gains in student achievement and other school outcomes.
